Forklifts, when used in indoor operations, are usually operated on cushioned tires that are made out of solid rubber. The pneumatic style of tires is really the ideal option for outdoor applications. Pneumatic tires could be used on asphalt surfaces and on dirt roads and are common for heavy cargo.
Propane powered lift trucks are trusted to be safe for the most part and has a reputation for being a clean burning fuel source. If the equipment or engine is not maintained or tuned up correctly, then the propane powered engine can produce carbon monoxide or CO, along with other caustic oxides of nitrogen. Any internal engine that is not in optional running form could have a similar situation occur. These gases that are emitted could be really harmful in incorrectly ventilated or confined spaces.
Propane models emit less harmful gases compared to diesel and gasoline powered lift trucks. The chemical structure of propane is rather simple. As it is a gas, propane mixes really well with air, compared to diesel or gasoline and burns at a low temperature. Caustic oxides of nitrogen produced during propane combustion in the engine are a lot less than those emitted by a diesel or gas engine. Hence, the engine of a propane lift truck typically lasts much longer than a gasoline or diesel powered lift truck model.
With an internal combustion engine, air is sucked into it from the surrounding area. This air is what causes the fuel to burn. A 60 horse-power lift truck must breath in 5000 cubic feet of air per minute to be able to work. Before operation, it is recommended to switch on a propane lift truck outside and allow it warm up for a bit. This is due to the carbon monoxide emissions since they read higher from a cold propane-powered engine or equipment and become less potent after the machine has had a chance to warm up.
It is important to remember that battery powered or electric lift trucks could not be utilized outdoors in the rain for fear of damaging the battery if they get wet. A dangerous situation can occur because an electric lift truck could short out because of rainwater getting in.
Propane lift trucks however work well in the rain. The propane is stored in sealed tanks that are positioned on the back of the lift truck. This means there is no chance of a rainstorm interrupting an operator's work. Propane forklifts are really versatile and are capable of being used both indoors and outdoors. Diesel and gasoline powered forklifts can suffocate you accidentally with harmful gases if they are used inside. A well maintained and properly tuned up lift truck is a great way to effectively and safely handle your loads.
