Lift Truck Parts in More Detail
There are numerous parts which make up a forklift. The lift truck's major components consist of the frame of the truck, the engine parts, the overhead guard, the tilt cylinders and the wheels. Additionally, a lift truck has a variety of attachments. All the parts making up a lift truck are all essential as they work together to make the functions of the equipment possible. The next paragraphs describe in detail some of the lift truck components.

The Overhead Guard - this guard forms the forklift truck's metal roof. It sits over the cab area and protects the equipment operator whilst he or she is sitting and driving. The overhead guard ensures that nothing falling from above onto the truck will harm the driver or damage the controls inside the cab. The overhead guard is vital to the frame assembly on various models.

The Mast - Mounted either to the front axle or the forklift frame, the mast is the vertical lift truck part made of interlocking rails. The mast allows the forks to move up and down whilst providing lateral stability. The interlocking rails may either have bushings or bushings as guides. There are two ways the mast could be operated: chain operated with motive power provided by a hydraulic motor or hydraulically by one or more hydraulic cylinders.

Lift Truck Carriage - The carriage is the part which the forks and other attachments are mounted to. The carriage is in fact directly attached to the hydraulic cylinder and is attached by chains. To enable the forks to be raised and lowered, the carriage could have either rollers or bushings to guide it in the interlocking mast rails.

Load Back Rest - When the carriage is lifted to full height, there is a back rest made of metal which keeps a load from falling backwards. The back rest is either welded or bolted on to the carriage.

Forklift Attachments - a range of attachments may be fixed to the front of the forklift truck. The most common attachment is forks. In addition, there are rotators, rollers, L-shaped members, pole handlers, roll clamps and and all that. These different types of attachments are helpful for transporting various types of loads.
