Classifications of Scissor Lifts & Aerial Lift Platforms
A scissor lift consists of a series of crisscrossed steel arms that are connected to create an X pattern. When raised vertically, the X pattern of support holds the rectangular platform that is situated on top of the lifting mechanism. There are support railings along the lifting mechanism's edges to be able to keep the employees safe and help to secure their tools.
Scissor lifts offer a low profile which is ideal for pavement, hard dirt surfaces and concrete. These equipment utilize either a combustion engine or electric motor in order to move the lift and power the lifting mechanism. The operator must move the lift itself if she or he needs to travel horizontally, since the lift mechanism just operates the lift vertically.
Rough Terrain Scissor Lift
The standard scissor lift and the rough terrain scissor lift utilize the same lifting technology. The main difference is that the rough terrain models feature a different base which is particularly designed for uneven surfaces. These units also offer oversized all terrain tires and higher ground clearance. The rough terrain scissor lifts use 4-wheel drive so as to easily navigate through difficult and muddy terrain.
Telescopic Boom Lift
The telescopic boom lift utilizes a telescoping beam that raises both diagonally and vertically. This specific model has a small work platform that houses controls to be able to operate the boom. The controls function with a combustion engine in order to power the hydraulics which power the boom and move the lift. The telescopic boom lift has off-road capable tires and is an independent lift unit.
Articulating Boom Lift
There are two telescopic booms on the articulating boom lift. These are attached with a moving elbow mechanism. This lifting machinery has a small work platform or a bucket which is outfitted with hand controls in order to control the boom. These are stand-alone lifts which are powered by a combustion engine. Articulating boom lifts are offered with either off-road or hard surface tires. These lifts are made to be able to reach over top of and on top of buildings.
Aerial Mast Lift
To be able to lift a work platform vertically into the air, the aerial mast lift uses a telescopic mast. The lift is usually powered electrically or pneumatically and are self-propelled models. These equipment offer a great solution for working in high racks within narrow warehouse aisles. It is really vital to bear in mind that aerial mast lifts are not recommended for off-road use and are limited to vertical movement.
